On the April 5 episode of Raw, Otunga put himself in a tag team match with John Cena for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship against Sho Miz (Big Show and The Miz).Later in the match, however, he refused to tag in and walked out, allowing Sho Miz to retain.On February 16, 2010, after numerous dark matches on both Raw and Smack Down, it was announced that Otunga would wrestle on the first season of NXT under his real name, with R-Truth as his storyline mentor.

David: I was really frightened of how much work it was going to be, if I was going to be able to pull it off—basically I started to get nervous about actually doing the job. Glamour: Your Twitter photo is you with a photoshopped Santa hat on. Then I quit Twitter for a month, and when I came back on it was late January/early February, and people were really annoyed by it.  It's supposed to be self-effacing—it's supposed to be a joke—but maybe it comes across that I'm conceited, which I'm not. Someone called me a beefcake one day, and I thought it was the greatest word of all time, so it's going in there! Glamour: So cute that I'm thinking fans have probably asked the same of you now, and you should indulge them. David: If someone sends a phone number, I will call them.
We covered a lot of terrain, including pre-acting gigs (none of which were in an office), dream roles, riding horses, hypnotizing chickens, and striking a balance between commercial moneymakers and indie passion projects.
